At the beginning of the year, I requested that people sign up for my Alone Forever street team. What they did was go to their local comic book shops with Alone Forever postcards that I sent them, to request that they order the book. That was basically an experiment to work out the kinks before I tried my hand at promoting my upcoming graphic memoir Tomboy. What I learned was that having an ISBN and a Diamond order code would have been helpful, so when I made my postcards for Tomboy, I made sure to include those.
What I am asking from Tomboy street team members is that they distribute the postcards to their local bookstores, comic shops, libraries, and/or any shop that carries books (even museum gift shops, for example) and request that they order the book. Even big chain bookstores are fair game, because they usually have someone who orders books for their specific location. That’s it! As a reward for donating your time to spread the word about Tomboy, I will be making a special, limited edition bookplate, that will ONLY be available to street team members (how many end up being made will depend on how many people join the street team). The bookplate will be sent out sometime in October or November.

Thanks so much for helping me get this book into as many stores and libraries as possible; I really believe that this book can do really well if it is visible, and that stores like suggestions on what to carry from their customers. As Piebald once so eloquently sang, “Hey, you’re part of it!”.
